Raku is a perfect visual representation of striking, sleek and minimal dining with an original flare. When we engaged as the head contractor it was abundantly clear that the client wanted to bring a taste of Japan to our nation’s capital. To cultivate this authenticity materials were flown from Japan and traditional Japanese Washi artists were engaged.  The project purposefully used a variety of organic and common materials to create layered textures and the result was nothing short of a modern Japanese time capsule. 

Key challenges: 

• Extremely tight timeframes meaning a large portion of the works were done across double shifts seven days of the week while considering the procurement and delivery of international goods and materials. 

• Ensuring that a coordinated strategy was implemented that brought the owners and designers vision to life with incredible attention to detail. 

• Translating the intricate concepts and futuristic design into a practical building solution.
